Hi Run Tires & Wheels: What to Know Before You Buy

Hi Run is a specialty brand covering trailer, golf cart, lawn and garden, and utility equipment applications. Owned by Sutong Tire Resources, Hi Run is a well-recognized supplier of original equipment tires to numerous manufacturers across trailer, lawn and garden, ATV, and small utility categories. The lineup spans tires and wheels across these categories - available individually or as pre-assembled sets - with selection always driven by equipment type and load requirement rather than performance preference. 

Trailer Tires

Trailer tires are the largest segment of the Hi Run catalog. All carry the ST (Special Trailer) designation and are built specifically for towing applications - they must not be mounted on passenger vehicles or light trucks. Within the trailer range, the key distinction is construction type: radial or bias-ply.

Radial trailer tires, such as the ST100 and JK42, are generally better suited to higher-speed or longer-distance towing. The JK42, for example, features radial construction for reduced road noise, reinforced construction for higher load capacity, and a tread pattern for year-round traction on utility, boat, and camper trailers. The ST100 similarly offers heavy load capacity and high-speed highway performance and is also available as a pre-mounted assembly. 

Bias-ply trailer tires, such as the  Hi Run LQ229 ST Bias and H187, suit lighter-duty or lower-speed towing. The LQ229 is a bias-ply highway trailer tire with circumferential grooves for wet traction and strong internal construction for load durability. The H187 uses a ribbed tread pattern to enhance towing stability and resist hydroplaning in wet and winter conditions. 

Across all Hi Run trailer tires, load range and ply rating determine safe towing capacity; size alone is not enough to confirm correct fitment. Always calculate the loaded axle weight before selecting a model.

Golf Cart Tires

Hi Run's golf cart range covers common 8-, 10-, 12-, and 14-inch rim fitments with tread profiles suited to mixed-surface and turf use. Models vary primarily in tread pattern and wear priority.

The  Hi Run P823, for instance, uses an optimized tread that grips varied terrain while remaining turf-friendly, making it a practical choice for carts used across grass and hard surfaces. The P825 takes a different approach, using a non-directional tread with deep tread depth and a specialized rubber compound oriented toward maximum tread life. The SU23 covers a similar fitment range to the P823 and serves as an alternative in overlapping sizes.

When selecting a golf cart tire, confirm rim diameter, bolt pattern, and load capacity against the cart's specifications - these vary across the range.

Lawn & Turf Tires

Hi Run's lawn and garden range includes tires for driven axles and utility positions on ride-on mowers and compact equipment. Tread pattern selection depends on axle position: turf patterns for driven rear axles, ribbed or smooth patterns for front/steering positions.

The SU05, for example, is a turf tire for lawn mowers and garden tractors, with a close-shaped tread for grass traction and a wide shoulder for stability. The SU02 covers smaller utility and compact trailer sizes within the same category. Confirm the axle position being replaced before selecting a tread pattern - driven and non-driven positions have different requirements. 

Wheels & Assembled Sets

Hi Run wheels are available for trailer and irrigation equipment applications, with bolt patterns, rim widths, and center bores matched to specific equipment hubs. Confirm all four specs - rim diameter, rim width, bolt pattern, and center bore - against the equipment hub before ordering a standalone wheel. Pre-assembled tire and wheel sets, such as the ST100 Assembly, pair a confirmed tire and wheel as a single DOT-approved unit. Assemblies include the tire size, load range, rim size, and bolt pattern verified as a matched set. For buyers replacing a complete assembly rather than just a tire, this removes the risk of a mismatched wheel spec and is the more straightforward option
