In the last years, the tendency to replace traditional tandem tires with new ultra wide base ones is getting bigger and bigger. These have proven to be quite efficient when it comes to carrying capacity, fuel usage, maintenance, and mileage. One of the newest UBW tires developed by Hankook is the e3 Wide DL21. This model is a super single drive position tire designed to replace its predecessor, the DL07. Compared with the old version, the new one offers greater life and mileage. Hankook claims that the new e3 Wide DL21 offers a 2% long tread life and up to 10% less rolling resistance than DL07.
Above all, seven main grooves increase the shoulders' strength with the purpose to minimize deformation of the outer groove. In addition, these grooves have a zigzag shape with special tie bars developed to reduce stone retention. Coming with a closed shoulder design, the Hankook is the e3 Wide DL21 shows smooth wear, improved fuel usage, and extended mileage. For safety reasons, it comes with 3D sipes placed parallel to the back of the circumferential grooves to limit uneven wear. The new Spiral-Coil Technology means a unique structure designed to provide an optimized footprint for high casing stability even if the truck is overloaded.
Based on the internal test and research the new Hankook is the e3 Wide DL21 (445/50R22.5) compared with standard dual tires (295/75R22.5) offers weight savings of around 400Ibs per tractor. Moreover, it ensures up to 33% less rolling resistance.
